Deadline
dates will be forthcoming. Format for the program is 5.5 x 8.5. Gloss
color cover with B/W interiors. What
works best with most formats is a portrait style design (with exception
to the half-page format).

*Whether this is your first time working up an ad or not, here's some
guidelines for the ads that **bleed.

|
|
|
|
|
|
< to the left, I've color-coded the boxes. ** Designing for bleed
is a tricky thing if you've never done it before. You have to keep in
mind that the end product is going to get cut down. Possibly in a stack
with a guillotine cutter. The cut will bow in a little. As much as an
1/8th of an inch into the design.
- LIVE
AREA-
is your guaranteed spot where nothing will cut off once the book is
trimmed. Any crucial information, like a web address, will not get
cut off. 1/8th to 1/4in. in from the edge will do it. If it's in the
program, I'd advise not putting crucial info kissing the gutter (fold)
of the booklet.
- TRIM
AREA-
is the edge of the cut or the format given for the ad (ex. 5.5 x 8.5).
Any text or art that goes past this point gets cut off.
- BLEED
AREA-
if you're going to want bleed, it's a good idea to have a 1/4in. area
around the design. 'bleed' means falling off the edge of the cut line.
The pink bar shows what I mean. That area past the trim will be cut
off in the end.
